There are a lot of companies out there performing SEO services around the country but how do you know these companies are a good fit for you? With the latest Google Panda, Penguin and Hummingbird updates there has been a lot that has changed over the past year or so. Most search engine optimization services have had to make adjustment to the way they optimize, in short what was working before is no longer effective. It’s a hard sport to get into and to make sure you’re getting the best service here are three simple rules to go by when choosing an SEO company to provide your website with service.

Check their references?

References make a big difference so you need to ask them who they’ve done this for and was it successful. Talk is cheap and you can sign a contract with anyone claiming to do SEO but that doesn’t mean anything. When choosing a company you have to know what you’re paying for and what is the expected result of their efforts. Clearly determined this metric when they present you with an offer or you could end up getting the short end of the stick. Don’t be afraid to ask relevant questions like “when will I see a return on my investment” and “are all of your tactics white hat.”

What is their ranking in search engines?

When you searched for their keyword what place did they hold in the rankings? Is that only one search engine or does that include Yahoo and Bing as well? These are key factors that you need to know because some SEO companies are masters at getting you ranked in Google but not so good at ranking websites in the other two major search engines which are equally important. Make sure that the company that you choose will also rank you in the other two search engines using white hat SEO.

What is their course of action?

You need to know what they plan to do with and to your website. You want to know what you’re spending your money on so you can over-see the operation. If they are performing unethical practices it’s your website that gets penalized so make sure that you can watch everything. You want to know things like where they are submitting your link to and how many of your links. If they use article marketing are these articles spun or are they producing original content. Make sure that the company you choose applies ethical SEO practices.
