Ready? Let’s go.
MLM Blog Training: 5 Steps To Getting 100 Leads a Month
Step #1 – Master Keyword Research
Keywords are simply what your target audience is typing into search engines like Google.
When you know this, you can create content directly for these keywords and you’ll never worry about what to blog about ever again.
I classify keywords into two categories: root keywords and long tail keywords.
Root keywords are generally broad terms, for example, “internet marketing,” or “weight loss.”
Long tail keywords are more specific, for example, “internet marketing for beginners,” or “weight loss for women over 40.”
Most people make the mistake of wanting to rank for broad terms, when in fact ranking for long tail keywords has more benefit.
Yes, ranking for the keywords, “internet marketing,” or “weight loss” would bring in a lot of traffic, but it would be unfocused and thus decrease conversions.
Ranking for long tail keywords would bring in less traffic, but it would be much more focused and thus increase conversions.
In fact, “popular” search terms make up only 30% of total searches on the web, while the remaining 70% of searches are long tail keywords.
My go-to keyword research tool is Long Tail Pro because I’m able to find easy to rank for keywords, but I use the Google Keyword Planner tool frequently, too.
I also use YouTube and forums to find additional keywords. Forums are great because people go there to ask questions, which makes for great content to publish on your blog and position yourself as an authority.
These methods will allow you to work smarter, not harder, and crush your competition.
Assignment: Compile a list of 30-50 keywords for blog posts for your own blog.
Step #2 – Create All-Killa, No-Filla Content
Now that you have 30-50 keywords to blog around, it’s time to create content that impresses our readers.
Here’s some personal guidelines I follow to create responsive content that people love.
500 words minimum, but aim for 1,000+. It’s hard to write epic content in less than 500 words. Content that goes viral and gets a lot of engagement is usually longer and much more in depth. Not to forget, Google rewards blogs that get positive feedback by ranking you higher in the search engines.
Use images, audio, and video to add value to your posts. Cater to different senses because not everyone wants to read. Some people prefer videos, others like audios and/or images.
Break up blocks of text to give the illusion of a shorter, and easier to read blog post. People run away from big blocks of texts.
Use strong headlines, titles, intros and conclusions. A compelling title gets people to click on your blog post, while intros capture their attention and make them want to read further. Headlines are important because people like to skim through content nowadays, and conclusions sum everything up and prepares the reader for a strong call-to-action.
Step #3 – Solid On-Page Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
On-Page SEO ensures that Google ranks your blog post for the intended keyword you are trying to rank for.
For example, if you were trying to rank for the keyword, “pidgin mittens,” but Google ranks you for “monkey diapers” then you’re screwed.
The good news is you are 100% in control of your On-Page SEO, and you can get this right every single time by using your keyword in the following places:
the title of your blog post (aka the H1 tag)
the permalink (aka the URL of your blog post)
subheadings (H2, H3, H4, H5, & H6 tags)
the meta description
keyword density (sprinkle your keyword throughout your article)
the title and alternative text of your images
using keyword decorations (bolding, italicizing, and underlining your keyword)
adding a featured imaged with the keyword saved as .jpeg or .png.
I use a plugin called WordPress SEO by Yoast to ensure I don’t mess this up.
[SIDENOTE]: Building backlinks will significantly increase your rankings in the search engines.
Step #4 – Optimize Your Blog for Lead Capture
When you start ranking for keywords in the search engines and driving people back to your blog on forums and social media, you want your blog setup to capture leads.
You want to maximize this opportunity because it’s not guaranteed that people will ever come back to visit your site again.
This is why it’s important to include call-to-actions that tell readers what they should do next.
Ideally, you want encourage them to subscribe to your email newsletter, so you can follow up with them via email and focus on building a relationship that turns new leads into hot buyers.
The best way to do this is to have a lead magnet – aka offering something of value in exchange for their email.
The most common options are eBooks, short PDF cheat sheets, a video/video course, free trials, consultation calls, a tool or a spreadsheet.
I like to place opt-in forms everywhere because the more exposure a visitor has the more chance he is likely to opt-in. The good news is that there are tools that make this easy to do.
Tools that create opt-in forms above the header of my blog, in the sidebar, and in the middle and end of my posts.
I also use lightbox popups (opt-in boxes that automatically pop up when a visitor scrolls halfway down the page), and exit-intent popups (which appear when it senses a users mouse curser move towards the “x” button or back button of his internet browser).
The bottom line is you want to convert as much of your traffic as possible, and these tools make a dramatic difference.
Step #5 – Share and Promote Your Content
If you build it, they will come is a fallacy in the blogging world.
You need to promote your content on all your social media profiles, distribute it on social bookmarking and discovery engines like StumbleUpon, Digg, and Delicious.
Not to forget including social sharing buttons on your blog.
Google values social shares more and more, so if you want your content to rank higher in the search engines AND get more eyeballs on your stuff, don’t neglect social sharing buttons.
Once again, there are plugins that make this easy to install on your blog. I use Digg Digg.
It’s also smart to use call-to-actions that explicitly ask your readers to like, comment, and share your post.
Social media is taking over. There has never been a better opportunity to promote yourself and get your content to go viral around the world.
Step #6 (BONUS) – Consistency
This is rather obvious, but the best results are going to happen when you stay consistent.
Blogging is like building a castle. It takes a long time to build, but it stands the test of time, and if you stick to the strategies outlined in this post you will be golden.
Create a posting schedule and stick to it. I like posting a new blog post every Monday and Friday. Your readers (and Google) will appreciate that consistency.
